Olivier Fleurot, CEO PRCC and Publicis Events Worldwide, elected EACA President

16 September 2009 -

Brussels, 16 September 2009:- Olivier Fleurot, CEO PRCC (Public Relations Corporate Communications) and Publicis Events Worldwide, has been elected President of EACA (European Association of Communications Agencies) for the next two years.

He succeeds Gary Leih, who has just stepped down as Group Chairman & CEO of Ogilvy UK Ltd.

Fleurot joined Publicis Groupe in 2006 as Executive Chairman of Publicis, one of the three global advertising networks in the Groupe. In this capacity, he chaired the Publicis Worldwide advertising executive committee and set the network’s global strategy, in addition to contributing to developing important global clients.

As executive Chairman of Publicis WW and in his new role as head of public relations and corporate communications activities, Fleurot is very aware of the deep transformation going on in the commercial communications industry due to the digital revolution.

“Media themselves are evolving very fast and our clients need us more than ever in this fast moving and more complex environment,” he says.
“That is why I am so excited and honoured to take on this new role as President of EACA, and to contribute to this transformation with my colleagues. As an industry we also have a growing responsibility to advise our clients on issues such as climate change and environment, health and obesity and alcohol-related problems.

In addition to representing European agencies to the EU Commission & Parliament in Brussels, EACA runs the EACA Euro Effies®, the IMC European Awards and the Care Awards for social marketing campaigns.  In the last two years, EACA has also created the foundations for building a more professional approach to training across Europe agencies, targeting students through the European Foundation for Commercial Communications Education and more recently offering high-level training to agency personnel through the EACA International School of Advertising & Communications.

“Olivier’s broad experience, not just at Publicis, but in his previous career in the media, will be a huge asset for EACA as we continue to expand our offering to our members,” says Dominic Lyle, the Association’s Director General.

Prior to joining Publicis Groupe, Fleurot joined the Financial Times Group in 1999 as managing director of the Financial Times, from 2003 to 2006 in the position of Chief Executive. In 2006 he was named Senior Advisor to Marjorie Scardino, CEO of Pearson, the Group’s parent company. He was later appointed Chief Executive Officer of the FT Group and given responsibility for all of the Group’s newspapers and their online activities, including the Financial Times, Financial Times Deutschland in Germany and Les Echos in France, as well as stakes in newspapers in India, Russia and South Africa, and the business publications Investor’s Chronicle and the Banker.

Before joining the Financial Times Group, Fleurot was Chief Executive of the Les Echos Group, France’s leading business publisher. He joined Les Echos in 1988 as Marketing, Circulation and Communications Manager of the Business Division. Under his stewardship, Les Echos progressed considerably on all fronts.
