EUROBEST AWARDS BECOME A FESTIVAL IN 2008
Stockholm to host the inaugural 3-day European event
London, 3 December 2007 – For 20 years Eurobest, Europe's leading creative advertising awards has celebrated the best of European creativity across all the major channels. Following a record breaking year in 2007, Eurobest will evolve into a European Advertising Festival in 2008. The Eurobest Advertising Festival will address the issues, challenges and opportunities that European agencies deal with on a day to day basis. The Festival will culminate with the judging of the 2008 Eurobest Awards.
The inaugural 3-day Festival will take place 1-3 December 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden, and will be held in co-operation with EACA member The Advertising Association of Sweden. The programme of the event will be themed to identify and engage specific topics that are relevant to the European market.
"After talking to many people in Europe over the last few years, it has become clear that there is an appetite for a European Festival addressing European issues. We have discussed with the industry and will continue to discuss with the industry to ensure that the Eurobest Festival reflects what is important to the European creative community," said Philip Thomas, CEO of Cannes Lions, organisers of Eurobest.
“Scandinavia in general and Sweden in particular has been very supportive of Eurobest over the years, and we have received huge support from the industry there since we started talking about it as the location of the first event. We are therefore pleased to launch Eurobest as a Festival in Stockholm,” continued Thomas.
"We have long believed that Europe requires its own event. We have rallied for it, discussed it and now through The Eurobest Festival it has come to fruition. We are delighted to be associated with the Festival in its inaugural year and even more delighted that the first event will be held in Stockholm," commented Pia Grahn Brikell, managing director of The Advertising Association of Sweden.
Eurobest, currently the largest creative awards in Europe, attracted a total of 5333 entries from 608 companies in 37 European countries at the 2007 edition held last week, and has led the way by being the first awards to pioneer the first online digital advertising awards ceremony five years ago, which engaged over 30,000 visits this year.

Launched in 1988, Eurobest has been Europe’s leading annual awards competition for creative excellence in the categories of TV/Cinema, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Interactive, Media, Direct & Sales Promotion and Integrated advertising. The awards, which are judged by Europe’s top creatives, will extend to a 3-day Festival from 2008 which will be themed to identify and engage specific topics that are relevant to the European market. Organised by the same team behind the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival and the Dubai Lynx International Advertising Festival, the Eurobest Advertising Festival will be a purely European event.
